Military Grade Reliability

Acer’s commitment to your business begins before you open the package. By testing our products to MIL-STD-810H standards and Ingress Protection against water and dust you can be assured that your product will withstand more than you throw at it on an average day in the classroom, warehouse or on site.

MIL-STD-810H Standards

The following items are the tests that devices bearing the MIL-STD-810H label have passed.

TravelMate - Business Laptops

High and Low Temperatures

Tested to ensure performance across all temperatures ranging from -32°C to 49°C for over 8 hours.

Rain

Devices are tested against rain exposure, subjected to water sprays from a specified height and inspected for damage afterwards.

Humidity

Tested devices are subjected to cycles of humidity ranging from 58% to 88% over a period of 24 hours.

Vibration Test

Devices were subjected to vibrational testing to ensure that all materials would be able to endure transportation and handling.

Drop Test

Devices are dropped 26 times from a height of 122cm (48 inches) onto each corner, side, and panel onto a 2-inch thick surface of plywood. Devices are inspected for any damage after each drop.

Shock Test2

Devices and their components are tested for their resistance to exposure to dry, blowing sand as well as how they perform in dust-laden atmospheres.

Chromebook - Work and Study

High and Low Temperatures

Tested to ensure performance across all temperatures ranging from -32°C to 49°C for over 8 hours.

Rain

Devices are tested against rain exposure, subjected to water sprays from a specified height and inspected for damage afterwards.

Sand and Dust2

Devices and their components are tested for their resistance to exposure to dry, blowing sand as well as how they perform in dust-laden atmospheres.

High Temperature Operating2

To evaluate the safety, performance and integrity of devices in high temperature environments, devices are exposed to higher than standard (~140°F) ambient temperatures over five different 24-hour periods.

Shock Test2

Devices are subjected to physical shocks they may encounter during the handling, transportation, or servicing throughout their lifetime. Devices are tested in both on and off states, and receive a total of 18 shocks to test the device’s structural integrity.

Low Pressure (Altitude) Testing2

Devices are tested in low pressure environments for an extended period of time to simulate both transportation and operation while in an airplane.

Solar Radiation (Sunshine)2

Tested devices are exposed to direct sunlight for four 24-hour cycles.

PREDATOR TRITON – GAMING LAPTOPS*

High and Low Temperatures Tests3

Tested to ensure performance while operating in temperatures ranging from -32°C to 49°C, as well as being tested in a non-operating state in temperatures as low as -30°C and as high as 60°C.

Humidity Test

Tested devices are subjected to temperatures ranging from 31°C to 41°C at a relative humidity of 55~88 % RH for 15 cycles.

Vibration Test

Devices were subjected to vibrational testing to ensure that all materials would be able to endure transportation and handling.

Rain Test

Devices are tested against rain exposure, subjected to water sprays from a specified height and inspected for damage afterwards.

Dust Test

Devices and their components are tested for their resistance to exposure to concentrated dust over a period of three days.

Swift – Consumer Laptops

High and Low Temperatures

Tested to ensure performance while operating in temperatures ranging from -32°C to 49°C, as well as being tested in a non-operating state in temperatures as low as -51°C and as high as 60°C.

Humidity

Tested devices are subjected to temperatures ranging from 30°C to 60°C at a relative humidity of 95%.

Vibration Test

Devices were subjected to vibrational testing to ensure that all materials would be able to endure transportation and handling.

Drop Test

Packaged devices are dropped 26 times from a height of 76cm (30 inches) onto each corner, side, and panel onto a 2-inch thick surface of plywood. Devices are inspected for any damage after each drop.

Sand and Dust2

Devices and their components are tested for their resistance to exposure to dry, blowing sand as well as how they perform in dust-laden atmospheres.

IP Testing

Ingress Protection testing is separate to MIL-STD-810H and offers a guarantee as to how much dust and liquid the device will withstand. It is published by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). The equivalent European standard is EN 60529.

The first number represents the amount of solids that can enter, and the second number represents the amount of protection from moisture such as drips, sprays, submersion etc. The table below explains what each number means. For example IP 68 is fully resistant to dust and submersion in water for long periods.

+
=
IP68
Solid

Protected against solid objects over 50mm (1.96”) in diameter e.g. hands, large tools.

1

Protected against solid objects not over 80mm (3.14) in length and 12 mm in diameter.

2

Protected against solid objects over 2.5mm (0.09”) e.g. wire, small tools.

3

Protected against solid objects over 1mm (0.04”) e.g. wires.

4

Partial protection against dust that may harm equipment.

5

Totally protected against dust ingress including a vacuum seal, tested against continuous airflow.

6
Liquid

Protected against vertically falling drops of water or condensation.

1

Protected against falling drops of water, deflected up to 15°from vertical.

2

Protected against sprays of water from any direction, even if the case is deflected up to 60° from vertical.

3

Protected against splash water from any direction for a minimum of 10 minutes.

4

Protected against low pressure water jets (6.3mm (0.24”)) from any direction. Limited ingress permitted.

5

Protected against high pressure water jets from any direction. Limited ingress permitted.

6

Protected against the effects of immersion in water between 15cm (5.90”) and 1 meter (39.37”) for 30 minutes.

7

Protected against the effects of immersion in water under pressure for long periods.
